I am glad to live in Newfoundland where no one questions hunting. I love to hunt, its a big part of who I am. I love to eat what I hunt. Its honest through and through. Ortega Y Gasset said it well but it is really impossible to put it into words. If I don't eat it though I can't shoot it.

I agree about hunting and eating. Down here, there are quite a few folks who hunt, and more who profess to be ok with it but who are a bit put off by horns on the wall, or game to be cleaned, or similar things. Newfoundland sounds (and looks) to have a lot going for it for those who love the outdoors.
I don't mind horns on the wall or similar things but i think that a hunter should have respect for the animals he hunts. Respect may be a word that's overused nowadays but the principle of respect is scarce. Hunters like Aldo Leapold and David Peterson have the right ideals I think. I like the principles that the organization "Backcountry Hunters and Anglers" are promoting as well.

I like Peterson's work, too.
Most of the American public is sympathetic to hunters & hunting, so long as we practice good ethics. A few instances of shooting from the road, illegal ATV travel, wounding & wasting game, etc is all it takes to turn an otherwise sympathetic public against us (even here in Montana).
Thanks for your blog, which shows the human, caring, and environmentally responsible side of hunting. And cute dogs.
